Are you seeking a peaceful life, perhaps on an island in the Northern Saimaa lake district? A unique house awaits you in the heart of a forest. Outside, you’ll find a glassed-in veranda with morning sun and a wide patio extending along the entire side of the house. On the island of Varpasalo the nature is always near you. In winter, elks, hares, and deer may wander into your yard or you might encounter a fox, lynx, or a wolverine in the nearby forest. In early spring bird song fills the yard, and you will be delighted to spot bullfinches and woodpeckers among many other species. The rare osprey also nests on the island. The archipelago of Northern Saimaa is a breeding ground for the endangered Saimaa ringed seal, and if you're lucky, you might see one of the rarest seals in the world. The shy otter also enjoys these waters. As autumn approaches, blueberries, lingonberries, raspberries, chanterelles, and porcini mushrooms await their gatherers in the forests nearby.
The island is a fisherman’s paradise and there is a mooring for your boat or canoe. Whether your passion is angling, trolling or ice fishing, the waters of Savonselkä guarantee a catch. You can also venture out on the water by canoe, exploring the Suursaari water trails. For hikers, the Saaristo Trail offers magnificent hiking and cycling routes.
Rääkkylä is known for its folk music, and why not join the fun by organising your own folk music festival with your patio as the stage and the gently sloping hill in front of the patio as a great viewing area.
